Roae Opposes Bloated State Budget
Rep. Brad Roae (R-Crawford) today said he opposed the $29.1 billion General Fund Budget bill passed today by state House Democrats because it will guarantee a massive tax increase on the hard-working people of Pennsylvania.
“Watch your wallet if this (House Bill 1416) ends up being the final budget,” Roae said.
On Thursday, Roae supported a budget, which was rejected along a party-line vote, which would have spent $27.27 billion for fiscal year 2009-10. It would have spent $497 million less than the fiscal year that just ended on June 30, but would have increased basic education funding and provided adequate funding for higher education, state parks, state police, hospitals and much more.
“The bill that was passed today spends $29.1 billion,” Roae said. “A separate $1.2 billion higher education budget bill will need to be enacted since the budget passed today has no funding for the State System of Higher Education, Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency grants, as well as community colleges.”
House Bill 1416 passed by a vote of 104 to 95 and now goes to the Senate.
