Roae Votes Against Budget Bill Approved by House

Rep. Brad Roae (R-Crawford) today issued the following statement after voting against a state budget bill that was approved by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

“I voted ‘no’ because there is too much spending in the budget bill.  Spending has increased by more than $8 billion since Governor Ed Rendell took office.  We cannot afford to spend more than a billion dollars more than last year’s budget.

“The current budget has a $500 million deficit in it and the governor and Democrats in the state House want to add more than another billion dollars in new spending to next year’s budget.  Taxpayers want government spending to be brought under control.

“With federal stimulus funding ending next year, it creates a huge budget hole.  Because of the health care bill Congress passed the other day, the state will have to fund between 500,000 and 800,000 additional people on the state-taxpayer-funded health insurance programs.  Then there is the pension funding problem.  We will have major budget problems starting next year.  We have to cut back this year.”

The budget bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
