HARRISBURG – State Rep. Brad Roae (R-Crawford/Erie) today announced he has been selected to serve as the Republican chairman of the House State Government Committee for the 2023-24 Legislative Session.
The House State Government Committee is responsible for reviewing legislation dealing with all aspects of state government, including proposed amendments to the Pennsylvania Constitution, statewide initiatives and referenda, the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act, the Regulatory Review Act, legislative redistricting, Election Code reform, lobbyist disclosure and campaign financing.
“I’m honored to be selected for this position within the state House,” Roae said. “Serving as chairman of a committee is a significant responsibility. If the speaker would stop blocking the House from returning to legislative session, my top priorities would be to advance bills to require voter identification, shore up the finances of the state’s pension system, crackdown on cities and counties operating as sanctuary cities and simplify state land conveyances in order for the property to be put back on the tax rolls. Unfortunately, I believe the speaker will not bring us back to Harrisburg until the House majority belongs to the Democrats after the special elections next week. I will then be forced to fight against the liberal, woke agenda that will try to expand state government and bankrupt the Commonwealth with more programs that will increase taxes.”
When legislation is introduced in the state House, the speaker assigns it to one of the various standing committees. The majority committee chairman may then call hearings and decide whether or not the bill is worthy of consideration by the full House of Representatives.
Roae served on the State Government Committee for 10 years and is very knowledgeable on the issues. In addition, this is the third House committee Roae has chaired. He previously led the Commerce and Consumer Affairs committees in prior sessions.
